In Fuzhou University, there is 1 National Engineering and Research Centre for Chemical Fertilizer Catalyst, 1 engineering and research center of the Ministry of Education, 1 national key laboratory developed by Fujian Province and the Ministry, 3 key laboratories of the Ministry of Education developed by Fujian Province and the Ministry, 8 provincial engineering(technology) research(design) centers, 1 provincial laboratory of engineering, 7 provincial(university) key laboratories (open to the public), 2 provincial research bases for liberal arts, 3 provincial industry technology development base and 1 provincial university analysis and measurement center. Since “the Tenth 5-year Development Plan”, the University has undertaken over 3,600 scientific and technological projects with funds of more than 500 million yuan, and the University has undertaken 276 national and provincial important scientific and research projects. 155 national, ministerial and provincial scientific and technological research awards have been achieved, including the three national awards, i.e. National Natural Sciences Award, National Technological Invention Award and National Scientific and Technological Progress Award. The University has established collaborative relationship with scores of domestic universities and institutes and has been endeavoring to improve cooperation with enterprises and local organizations so as to meet the demands of regional and national economic development. Academic exchanges on science, teaching and culture with Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao regions have been actively carried out, taking advantage of the relationship of Two-side of the Straits and Three-region and focusing on cultural exchanges between Fujian and Taiwan. The University has established a favorable collaborative relationship with more than 20 universities in different countries, such as the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Russia, Japan, South Korea and so on. International education cooperation programmes developed with the University of Hertfordshire and the University of Ulster in UK and the State of Rheinland-Pfalz in Germany have been performed. The University is also engaged in positively promoting the exchanges between Chinese civilization and western civilization. “Library of the Western Belvedere”, the first western works center in China, and Institute of International Sinology have been established. Professor Kristofer Marinus Schipper, an internationally famous sinologist and member of the Royal Dutch Academy of Arts and Sciences, has been working long time in the University, engaging in academic research, exchange and teaching on sinology.
