In 1958 East China Arts College was relocated in Ding Jia Qiao of Nanjing, and in the June of the same year the school changed its name into Nanjing Arts College, and in 1959 into Nanjing Arts Institute, which marked the completion of the founding process and the ultimate establishment of a four-year academic institution. In 1967 the campus of Nanjing Arts Institute was moved to No. 15, Huju Road (N), Nanjing. Having a history of nearly a hundred years, Nanjing Arts Institute has been upholding outstanding cultural traditions and has accumulated profound cultural heritage. Mr. Cai Yuanpei once made the school motto “Pursuing profound knowledge, simple character, deep thinking, and perfect taste”, and Mr. Liu Haisu added “Unceasing change and endless transformation” to the richness of the school spirit. And now we have “Seeking truth, having innovative spirit, and pursuing perfection” as the guiding principle of Institute. Thanks to the wisdom of the mottoes, Nanjing Arts Institute has cultivated generations of outstanding talented people in arts. Since China carried out the reform and opening up policy, the Institute has seized the opportunity to develop itself with an amazing speed. In the process of the development, we have always insisted associating “enhancing teaching quality” with “seeking outreach development” because we firmly believe that improving the quality of teaching is the fundamental to the reputation of the school. By adhering to the principle, we successfully carried out the reform of credit system, and thereby promoted the education reform and fully implemented the “quality education”. Under the guidance of the principle of “scientific development” put forward by Mr. Hu Jintao, Nanjing Arts Institute has been adhering to “student-oriented education, and talent-based development” principle and placed strong emphasis on creating a sound academic atmosphere. We have always stressed the students should lay a solid foundation of related theories and grasped basic artistic skills. Meanwhile we have been actively exploring the modes of personnel training, and have vigorously promoted the building of the teaching quality in the implementation of the first-class teaching, training first-class professionals, and creating the first-class art institute. In the development we have accumulated rich experience, and obtained many advantages. In the “2003 assessment of the teaching quality of the undergraduate education” carried out by the Ministry of Education, Nanjing Arts Institute was rated as “excellent” level and won a good social reputation.4[dHY%4QUV
