Approved by the State Ministry of Education, Xihua University (XHU), a key provincial comprehensive university, merged by the former Sichuan University of Science and Technology and the former Teacher's College, was founded on 16th April, 2003. Approved by Sichuan government and recorded by the State Ministry of Education, Sichuan Economy and Administrate College joined XHU on 25th Sept, 2008. In order to realize agricultural mechanization, the former Sichuan University of Science and Technology, once defined as Sichuan Mechanical College of Agriculture, founded in 1960, is one of the provincial comprehensive universities in seven different zones of the country. XHU now has three campuses,Headquarter, Pengzhou campus and Chengdu Rennan campus. Located in Chengdu, a famous city with a long history and unique culture, XHU covers about 3,000mu and is close to the Western Hi-tech Zone of the country. With a national scenery zone at its west side, the campus gets a tributary of Min Jiang River winding through from the famous Ancient Irrigation Project-Du Jiangyan. Through over 50 years development, the university now consists of 20 schools and 59 undergraduate programs, engineering-focused and covering the fields of Science, Management, Liberal Arts, Technique, Economy, Law and Education. Currently, the university enrolls students from 25 provinces and is qualified to enroll students for national air force defense and athletes for cheerleader, Pingpong and taekwondo. Now there are about 30,000 full-time students, 1,200 graduates. XHU has 33 master degrees awarding units and professional field, 14 provincial key disciplines and laboratories, 12 provincial undergraduate training bases and experimental teaching model centers, 10 national or provincial characteristic specialty, 35 research institutes and testing centers. XHU follows the principles of 'build solid foundation, develop wide specialties, emphasize practice and promote excellence' and continues to optimize the talent training program, promotes the quality education and implements interactions of theory and practice. Therefore the quality of teaching has been improved steadily, and the overall quality of students has also been enhanced continuously.
